Tonya Morman Jackson, a proud native of Florence, has devoted her life to serving the community she calls home. A Wilson High School graduate, she also holds an Associate of Applied Science in Human Services from Florence-Darlington Technical College. With a personal and enduring connection to Florence, Tonya's education in the local school system laid the foundation for her lifelong dedication to the city and its residents. Her deep ties to Florence have been the cornerstone of her many years of service to its people.
Known affectionately as "MsTonya," Tonya has become a recognized leader in arts, youth advocacy, caregiving, and community volunteering. As a professional caregiver, she has spent years caring for the elderly, individuals with special needs and wheelchair-bound, ensuring their dignity and well-being. This spirit of caregiving is central to who she is, extending into her work mentoring young people and guiding them toward brighter futures.
Uplifting and empowering through community service, Tonya’s passion for service is deeply intertwined with her role as an artist and organizer. In addition to her caregiving work, Tonya has been instrumental in uplifting the Florence arts scene by organizing events, open mics, and cultural showcases that bring the community together. She has supported local businesses and provided platforms for them and artists to thrive.
Tonya's influence extends well beyond her own community, reaching across the Pee Dee Region and encompassing a network of numerous business leaders, business owners, organizers, and the broader community. She has spearheaded media arts programs for teens and at-risk youth through partnerships with organizations like the Boys and Girls Club of the Pee Dee Area, Williams Middle School Summer Enrichment, and Choices Charter School to name a few. These efforts have earned her national recognition, including being honored by Maybelline New York as a Woman Who Inspires Confidence Through Education and being featured in Essence Magazine for her impactful youth media camps.
With a life centered on caregiving, mentoring, and community-building, Tonya’s commitment to Florence is evident in every part of her work. She aims to continue this legacy of care and advocacy as a candidate for City Council, where she will focus on creating a Florence where all residents feel supported, respected, and valued in her beloved city.
